The Loading Dock – new local cafe review

The front of The Loading Dock – plenty of parking!

Yesterday my husband and I were driving home from an appointment in Belmont and looking for a place to eat when he suggested stopping at The Loading Dock for lunch. I had no idea The Loading Dock was even a store, let alone that they had just opened a cafe and were in the midst of opening up a restaurant! Turns out this is a hidden gem, both in terms of food quality and selection and its location right on Brighton Street.

They had a huge selection of international food and drink, with both to-go products and a nice cafe-type area. There was a selection of ~15 different salads which we did our fair share of sampling.  The tabbouleh variation with quinoa was my favorite, but I also enjoyed a bean salad and their homemade hummus. The cafe has many varieties of customizable sandwiches as well – I had one with tomato, basil, mozzarella, and pesto on foccachia and my husband had something absolutely stuffed with meat (portions are huge).

The prices were a little high but worth it because you got so much food (I ate the other half of my sandwich for lunch today) and because it’s made fresh. With its location, this will be a great place to stop with my kids after activities on the weekends, so it would be great if they end up offering some sort of children’s meal or portion at a lower price. The store part featured an enormous liquor selection with many nice wines and lots of specialty products as well as daily needs.

While we were eating our sandwiches in the outdoor patio space, the owners came out to introduce themselves and see how we were enjoying our food. Fuad and Zaneta, a husband and wife team, own and run the place and were very friendly and eager to contribute to the Belmont community. They have three children ranging from 2-6, so they clearly know what it takes to make a place family-friendly while catering to adults at the same time!

They’ll be opening the restaurant portion in a few weeks and were putting up the chandelier while we were there. It looks like it’ll be a nice-sized dining room, and you’ll still have the option to eat outside as well. The restaurant will be open until 11PM and they are open to hosting events and other things. They emphasized making it a family-friendly place are looking at doing some special events for kids on Saturdays. I’m looking forward to going back this weekend!
